The Bible names Elhanen, in 2 Samuel 21:19, as one who fought the Philistines and killed Goliath. This raises the questions: If Goliath was already dead, how could Elhanan have killed him? Or is the Bible wrong?
Oct 21, 2022 · David is said to have killed Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 but then Elhanan is recorded as having killed him in 2 Samuel 21:19. Obviously Goliath cannot have been killed by 2 different men in 2 different battles.
Mar 8, 2022 · This verse, quite distinctly, claims that it was Goliath’s brother who was killed by Elhanan. English Bible footnotes sometimes hint that the text of 1 Chronicles may solve the problem. The ESV note at 2 Samuel 21:19 reads, “Contrast 1 Chronicles 20:5, which may preserve the original reading.”
