Mullholland drive is an interesting one. I caught a theater screening of it- spoilers. And the whole time I thought “Man this acting is bad Naomi watts is acting like a soap star or something. But in like the very last scene she switches it on into totally real acting.
Mullholland Drive is as good a spot to start as any. My first Lynch movie was Fire Walk with Me on TNT Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs and it was probably the best intro you could ask for but you just have to start somewhere. And as others have noted, it's not at all about what the movies "is about" or even if it is a dream.
