The mean LI value of the 18 HSAs with the ScLeiden method is higher than 22 HSAs with the ScLouvain method (0.909 vs. 0.869) as fewer and larger HSAs are more likely to contain more intra-HSA flows. The range of LI with the ScLeiden method is significantly narrower than that with the ScLouvain method (0.727–0.985 vs. 0.286–1), so is the difference in the standard deviations (0.065 vs. 0.154).

The HSA and HRR geographic units are each assigned to a single town, but they can extend across state borders. This analysis was limited to HSAs and HRRs assigned to towns in the states of Washington, Arizona, and Florida. We excluded HSAs and HRRs that were assigned to towns in neighboring states but also included portions of the 3 study states.
