There is also evidence that these conditions may cause a bigger effect on increasing dementia risk in certain minoritised ethnic communities when compared to white people. For example high blood pressure is more likely to lead to stroke in Black people, and 1 in 4 people with a stroke will develop dementia.

However, few studies in the UK have examined if there are ethnic disparities in survival once individuals receive a dementia diagnosis.
Research suggests that people from an ethnic minority community are less likely to receive a diagnosis.22 One study found people from Asian ethnic groups had the lowest proportion of diagnoses, followed by Black ethnic groups, with White ethnic groups having the highest proportion of diagnoses.23
