  1. Feb 27, 2016 · Number one: The key passage in Scripture on the value of human beings is Genesis 1:26–27. That’s where we derive human value, not on gender, not on ethnicity, but on the fact that every human being is made in the image of God. It says, “Male and female, he created them.”. So, men and women are made in the image of God.

Woman in the creation and after the fall Genesis presents gender equality, rather than male leadership, as humanity’s created state.1It teaches that man and woman are created equally in the image of God and together have dominion over the earth (Gen 1:26–27). Their equality is not limited to spiritual standing before God, but applies to their domin...

Jesus in all his words and deeds left us an example to treat women as equals with men, never subordinated or restricted in role (Matt 12:49–50; 15:38; 25:31–46; Mark 3:34–35; Luke 8:21; 11:27–28). His treatment of women as equals defied the judicial, social, and religious customs of his day. On judicial matters where women’s rights were curtailed, ...

Paul many times affirms the equality of man and woman by identifying women as laboring alongside men in ministry, by affirming many theological truths that entail the equality of men and women, and by explicitly affirming their equality. Paul’s affirmations of women in ministry In Rom 16:1–16, Paul greets by name ten people he identifies as colleag...

Despite Paul’s many affirmations of gender equality, the idea persists that Paul is a champion of male rule in the church. Why? Primarily because of popular interpretations of a few passages: 1 Tim 2:12 (“I do not permit a woman to teach or have authority over a man”); 1 Tim 3 and Titus 1 (male-only overseer requirements); and 1 Cor 14:34–35 (“Let ...

  3. Oct 7, 2021 · Contributing Writer. Published Oct 07, 2021. John Piper explained that “we are unworthy of Christ, and we have great worth because of Christ.”. The Bible says that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). Men and women are of immense value to God. Here are some of the things he has said on the topic.

    • We were created male and female by divine design. According to the Genesis creation account, God created humanity male and female (Gen 1:26–28). Maleness and femaleness are creational, not contractual.
    • We were created male and female in God’s image. Humanity’s binary gender design as male and female reflects in some mysterious way the nature of God.
    • The man was created first and given the responsibility to lead. Scripture teaches that first the man was created by a direct divine act of creation and given the responsibility to lead; subsequently, the woman was created by God from the man (Gen 2:5–9) and for the man (Gen 2:18–20).
    • The man and the woman are partners in exercising dominion over God’s creation. The man and the woman jointly receive God’s mandate to multiply and fill the earth, and to subdue it, exercising dominion.
  4. Nov 30, 2012 · In this light the image of the place of woman in the New Testament vision of things is transformed. Women, in Paul’s mind are not created “for men,” i.e. for their bed and board. Rather women, as descendents of Eve, are placed by God in the human scene as the strong who come to help/save the weak (the men).

  5. May 21, 2024 · Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man” (1 Cor. 11:8-9). Elsewhere Paul says that a woman should not exercise authority over a man because “Adam was formed first, then Eve” (1 Tim. 2:13). Paul’s reasoning in these verses has been attacked as inconsistent.
