  1. Jun 29, 2020 · While questions of how to separate the author from the text are complicated, there are definitely things about the series itself that are problematic. RELATED: Harry Potter: The 10 Most Annoying Things the Trio Ever Did. Here are the ten most problematic things about the Harry Potter series that you might not have noticed before.

    • It’s kind of racist. It’s no secret that the Harry Potter series is very white. The characters of color are not only far and few in between, but sometimes portrayed in stereotypical manners.
    • It’s also kind of sexist. While I love several of the female characters (Hermione will always have a special place in my heart), the way the women are treated is very problematic and stereotypical.
    • There’s lookism. Like in fairy tales, the mean characters end up being the physically unattractive ones in this series. Both Uncle Vernon and Dudley are fat.
    • Love potions are comparable to date rape drugs. We learn that Tom Riddle’s mom drugged his dad with a love potion and he left her when it wore off. The book acknowledges this as fairly problematic, but never rightly calls it out for being rape.
  2. series. The Harry Potter book series by J. K. Rowling has resulted in numerous controversies over its publication and content, primarily in the realms of law and religion. For further information see: Religious debates over the Harry Potter series. Legal disputes over the Harry Potter series.

    • Molly Versus Bellatrix. There are several characters who deserve to have defeated Bellatrix by the end of the series. Narcissa, Harry, Neville, Tonks, and Remus to name a few.
    • Neville’s Turnaround Wasn’t Earned Yet. Everyone loves Neville, and why not? He’s the series’ ultimate underdog. This is a boy who suffers just as much as Harry without any of the benefits of being the chosen one.
    • Voldemort’s Flawed Logic. Voldemort is a man driven exclusively by fear. Every action he takes in the series stems from his desire to live forever. Finality is not a concept he takes comfortably and his entire motivation relies on him using Harry to live forever.
    • Tom’s Diary Clearly Wasn’t A Horcrux. It doesn’t matter what anyone says, JK Rowling clearly did not create Horcruxes as a concept until much, much later in the series.
  3. Jun 25, 2019 · 6. DUMBLEDORE LEFT HARRY ON A DOORSTEP. The messed-up things in the Harry Potter books are many, and one of them happened right away. In the beginning of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Ston e, Dumbledore leaves baby Harry on a doorstep. RELATED: Harry Potter: 25 Things Wrong With Dumbledore We All Choose To Ignore.

  4. Oct 1, 2024 · Sometimes, the Harry Potter stories added an element that should've been in the Wizarding World from the beginning, or there were obvious solutions to problems that the author must not have considered. While there are bound to be some slight mix-ups in a seven-part series like Harry Potter, some inconsistencies are glaringly obvious.

  6. My number one biggest problem of the whole series is... The portrayal of Slytherin. In many interviews Rowling has stated the sentiment that there are many good things about Slytherin house. However, even her "good" Slytherin characters have some pretty shady practices. (Ex. Slughorn's 'collecting' of people.)
