    • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch) Let's get the most obvious and essential Switch racing game out of the way first. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe delivers a huge amount of racing goodness right out of the box, and it's a polished version of a Wii U entry that was only a proper Battle Mode away from being top of class.
    • Fast RMX (Switch eShop) FAST RMX is as good as the Wii U original and then some. Updated visuals, more tracks, more vehicles; it was an utterly outstanding launch title for the Switch and it holds up very well to this day, keeping the futuristic high-speed racing game alive in the absence of F-Zero.
    • Hotshot Racing (Switch eShop) If the look of Hotshot Racing appeals to you and you can appreciate the aesthetic delights of something that looks deliberately low-fi and polygonal, the action it offers on the track does an excellent job of backing up the game's style with substance.
    • SEGA AGES Out Run (Switch eShop) This is about as essential a retro release as you can get. An inspiration for the excellent Horizon Chase Turbo further down the page (although the Top Gear games are arguably a bigger influence there), Out Run may lack modern spit polish but it has always been an infinitely playable game, and the new unlockables and online rankings only increase its longevity further.

    • Mario Kart 8. It's remarkable just how well Mario Kart 8 has held up after more than five years of being released. The game feels like it took everything from the previous entries, including the customization, gliding mechanics, and unique tracks, and improved on everything in a way that makes each circuit so much fun to play, especially against a few buddies.
    • Burnout Paradise Remastered. Another remaster of a classic racing game that has amassed somewhat of a cult following over the years, there isn't much of anything bad to say about Burnout Paradise Remastered.
    • Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit has already earned its title as one of the most iconic arcade racers in gaming history, so all the remaster had to do was give it a fresh coat of paint to make this well-known gem even better than it already was.
    • Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. This faithful remaster of the fan-favorite Crash Team Racing was received extremely well by fans and critics upon its release, primarily because of how well the game retained that chaotic nature of the original and memorable characters while still adding plenty of new features to keep the experience fresh.
    • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ The undisputed king of kart racers and Nintendo's ultimate party game (besides Mario Party, of course) is Mario Kart. The eighth series entry from the Wii U got ported over to the Switch with way more content in the form of slight gameplay alterations and a new & improved Battle Mode.
    • Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled’ Back on the PS1, the original Crash Team Racing debuted and shockingly measured up with N64's Mario Kart 64 when it comes to overall quality.
    • Cruis'n Blast’ The Cruis'n games should be familiar to old-head gamers that frequented the arcades and tackled the quality ports that came to the N64.
    • GRIP’ If your memory of unique racers from the 200s still works, then you most likely remember Rollcage. In 2018, a spiritual successor to that cult hit arrived in the form of GRIP: Combat Racing.
