- Yes. You have 10 years from your release date from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) or transfer date to the Supplementary Reserve to access Education and Training Benefit (ETB) funding. If you released from the CAF between 1 April 2006 and 31 March 2018, you have until 1 April 2028 to apply for and access ETB funding.

When should I apply for the ETB?
You qualify for ETB funding if you are a member of the Supplementary Reserve. If you released from the Supplementary Reserve between 1 April 2018 and 4 July 2019 you have 10 years from your date of release to receive funding.
Only periods of study that begin after your completed ETB applications are received by VAC will be considered for funding. We recommend submitting your applications at least 4 weeks before the start of your desired program.
Before you can apply for funding to support your education plan, we must first determine that you qualify. You should apply for the ETB if: you have been honourably released from the Canadian Armed Forces on or after 1 April 2006, or are a member of the Supplementary Reserve; and
VAC pays ETB funds directly to the Veteran. VAC must approve the program/course prior to releasing any payments. Payments cannot be made for a period of study that has already started or a program that has already been completed. .
Two-step application process. Veterans submit an eligibility application using the guided form on My VAC Account or by mail (VAC 1537e form). Once eligibility is approved, they can access funding by submitting either a Formal program application (VAC 1547e) or a Short course application (VAC 1549e) on My VAC Account or by mail.
