Apr 11, 2022 · Opera - latest downloadable version (just downloaded today 4/10/22) I spent some time in settings, specifically choosing DuckDuckGo as my Default search engine. I've rebooted and double checked this change more than twice yet Google remains the default search engine.
Anyway, unlike most other browsers, the default search engine in Opera can be only changed to a different predefined search engine, not to a custom search engine. Without speculating on the reasons behind this arbitrary restriction, I wonder how it's possible to convince Opera to use a non-predefined engine as default.
May 3, 2014 · In that Disconnect Search extension, I set DuckDuckGo as my primary search engine. That way, and by also selecting Main Address Bar in the extension, I get DuckDuckGo as my default search engine to operate out of the main Opera address bar/Omni-search bar, getting around the five limitation in Opera. I don't feel, at all, bad about it.

Nov 27, 2019 · Open the list in Set which search engine is used. Select DuckDuckgo. Scroll further down until heading Start Page appears. Set Hide search box switch to On position. Opera can only display Google search box on the Start Page. You can hide it, because you can search by typing keywords into the address bar. DuckDuckGo picks them up.
