      • You cannot use a second 'encoding' GPU, no. There are a lot of technical reasons, but they all boil down to "it would make the system overhead MUCH worse, and get you no benefit". (If nothing else, it would constantly be logjamming your PCIe bus to hell and back.)

  2. You can still use a capture card, or you can use NDI (which may work well because each VM will get a virtual 10 GbE interface, assuming the CPU has enough to encode and your GPU still has enough to render a single OBS scene with only the game capture).

  3. Oct 26, 2021 · If you want your recording process completely independent from the game and putting no load on the game GPU, you need to capture the monitor output with a capture card and use a 2nd PC where you do all encoding.

  4. Aug 22, 2018 · Yes, if you get separate GPU for encoding, you still get dropped frames if the GPU OBS is running on is on 100%. And you cannot set priorities on the GPU (see the edit of my previous post). Now you might think you can try to run OBS on one GPU for composing and your game on a second GPU.

  5. May 23, 2023 · If you have an Intel CPU and running the game on an external GPU, you can use Quicksync on the iGPU as encoder, which is effectively offloading encoding to a different GPU. Using Quicksync on the iGPU isn't wasting that much resources as using a hardware encoder on an external GPU.

  6. Using the NVENC on your GPU won't impact gaming performance, as the hardware encoder is its own part of the chip. Whether you use the NVENC or not, won't bother the rest of your GPU (unless you use 2-pass encoding/Max Quality preset, lookahead and/or psycho-visual tuning options).

  7. Hardware encoding is supported in both the Mac and Windows version of OBS, however the developers only recommend using it on computers running Windows. Additionally to get the best results we recommend you use hardware encoding if you run a Nvidia GPU.

  8. Encoding with nvenc will work like a charm. The only way to use 2 video cards for streaming without hidden problems is 2 pc setup with capture card. The 2080 has a very good encoder, 960 has a mediocre encoder. In your case, it is better to limit the frame rate in games to 60 fps.
