Since NPCs will only sell pylons when there is another NPC nearby, simply placing a single vendor in a biome they like will not make them sell pylons. In a more crowded area, bonuses can be stacked; e.g. an NPC who loves their biome, and at least likes their only close neighbor (or vice versa), can be happy enough even if there are too many NPCs within 120 tiles to get the solitude bonus.

May 21, 2020 · The happier an NPC is, the lower their vendor prices will be; and if an NPC is elated, they’ll sell you a Pylon corresponding to the biome they’re in for less than 10 gold. What a steal! Before you can get your hands on some Pylons (which we will explain in more detail soon enough), let’s talk about how that whole thing works as well as exactly how you can make your NPCs happy.
They won't mention the other NPCs for 2 reasons: 1.) They are indifferent toward them, or 2.) They are too far away from ones they aren't indifferent toward. So even if they are close enough they still might not mention one another and won't be able to sell a pylon.
Oct 15, 2020 · In these conditions, in 1.4.1, this is not enough to make him happy enough to sell a Pylon. He only likes the Golfer, not loves, and also likes the Forest. The combined benefit of those two is not enough to sell a pylon.
