  1. Aug 8, 2013 · This section of the book has shown that each Christian has the spiritual ability to manifest all nine manifestations of holy spirit. Every Christian can talk with the Lord and receive revelation, every Christian can and should have faith and do some of the works of Jesus, every Christian should enter into the spiritual battle and deal with demons, every Christian should prophesy, speak in ...

    • In the Gospel. One of the most surprising discoveries I had while writing Jesus, Continued . . . (Zondervan, 2014) was how often Paul equates fullness of the Spirit with going deeper in the gospel.
    • Through the Word of God. The Spirit’s primary vehicle for moving and speaking in our lives is the Scriptures. The Spirit works in us to shape us into being the kind of people God wants us to be, because then we will do the things God wants us to do.
    • Through the Church. The most common way the Spirit speaks in the book of Acts (other than in and through Scripture) is through the church. For instance, Acts 13:2 records, “While [the church was] worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’”
    • In Our Giftings. Paul tells us “each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (1 Cor. 12:7). This becomes a primary vehicle for his guidance in our lives.

In order to understand the Spirit’s fruit, we need to remember the context in which it appears. Paul’s list came at first to a community at odds with each other. The apostle found it necessary to warn the Galatians not to “bite and devour one another,” nor to “become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another” (Galatians 5:15, 26). The G...

The Spirit of God never indwells someone without also making him a garden of spiritual fruit. If we are abounding in these nine graces, then we are walking by the Spirit; if these virtues are absent, then no spiritual gift can compensate for their lack. How, then, should we respond when we find that the works of the flesh have overrun the garden? O...

Of course, renewing our gaze on Jesus Christ is more than the work of a moment. When Paul said, “I live by faith in the Son of God” (Galatians 2:20), he was speaking of a lifestyle rather than a fleeting thought or a brief prayer. We must do more than cast an eye in Jesus’s direction; we must communewith him. We cannot commune with Christ too close...

  2. May 14, 2024 · 1. The Holy Spirit is a Helper Who Teaches and Reminds. In John 14:26, Jesus told his disciples, “the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14:26, ESV). The Greek word “Parakletos” in this passage is translated as “Helper” in ...

    • Wisdom. This is not just ordinary knowledge but divine insight that enables us to discern the truth of God’s word. One way to recognize this is through wise decisions that align with God’s will, even in difficult situations.
    • Understanding. It is an ability to comprehend the deeper meanings of God’s word. Through understanding, we are able to interpret and apply biblical principles to our lives.
    • Counsel. The Holy Spirit also provides counsel, which is guidance and direction in our lives. This guidance can come in various ways, such as through prayer or through wise advice from others.
    • Fortitude. Fortitude is another sign of the Holy Spirit. It is the strength and courage to face challenges and difficulties in life. This is not physical strength but inner strength that comes from God.
  3. The Holy Spirit was manifest to the believers at Pentecost (Acts 2:2–4). God's manifest presence appeared with Daniel and his compatriots when they were thrown into the fiery furnace because they would not worship Nebuchadnezzar's image (Daniel 3:24–25). Even King Nebuchadnezzar's eyes were opened and he saw the manifest presence of God.

  5. Dec 19, 2023 · 4. The Holy Spirit Convicts Us of Sin. Since the Holy Spirit is working to make us like Jesus, he convicts us of our sin. Sin is something that will always offend God and hold us back. If we have sin, which we do, He will bring those sins to our attention. I will echo this statement - “conviction is your best friend”.
