I believe that most new manufactured scope mounts in the original style have gotten rid of the need for the notch but it's also been a few years since I looked into putting a scope on my SVT 40 so I may not be remembering correctly. You can also ask Canadaguns as SVT40's are more common up here.

Oct 17, 2023 · The whole scope mount grooves on a 1942 receiver still bugs me a little but I can't imagine that is a Bubba modification and I have to assume it was one of the very few 1942 Tula/#314 SVT-40s that were in fact made with them. It does NOT have the notch on top of the receiver for a scope. Believe I'm gonna make it mine.
