Cannot influence water consumption patterns
- Smart water meters are basically tools used to measure water use, and thus on their own cannot influence water consumption patterns. Rather, it is the high frequency (and resolution) information from them that is used to make the appropriate decisions on consumption.

Oct 2, 2024 · Smart meters monitor hourly water consumption patterns while reducing the cost and inconvenience of traditional meters. This study comprehensively analyzes 1871 households that previously used traditional meters from the distribution point to the distribution area.
Dec 4, 2013 · Data from a real-world, large-scale, smart metering trial are analyzed using water use signature patterns. The results demonstrate that water use behaviors are distinctive, for both individuals and populations. Signatures can identify behaviors that are promising targets for water conservation.

This review aims to create a more coherent and integrated understanding of how water metering, through smart meters in particular, can affect domestic demand for water. It also considers the influence of additional factors that serve to shape the effectiveness of metering technologies.
May 3, 2021 · Listen. Smart meter-simulated wastewater flow is a valuable step towards closing the water balance in urban drainage systems. Coupling between independent data sources opens up enhanced anomaly detection; here the discovery of potentially erroneous in-sewer observations.
