Students are able to opt themselves, and family, in and out of the DSU Health and Dental Plan during the opt-out period in which their studies begin, each policy year, if they have proof of comparible coverage.

If you are a full-time student beginning classes in September, you are automatically enrolled in the DSU Health & Dental Plan and the cost of the plan is included in your student fees.

Sep 30, 2024 · Students with private coverage can only opt-out from their International Health Plan during the enrollment period in which their studies begin each policy year, and their private coverage must meet the requirements available at DSU.ca/health-plan.
DSU Health & Dental Plan opt-outs are done through Dal Online or the Student VIP portal during the Fall Term opt-out period. International students who have qualified for MSI can opt-out from their International Health Plan throughout the year at www.studentvip.ca/dsu .
How to Opt Out. Annual Opt Out. If you complete an annual opt out, your opt out is in effect from Sept. 1, 2024 – Aug. 31, 2025. If you return as an eligible student in September the following year, you'll be automatically re-enrolled in the Health & Dental Plan.
DSU Opt-In/Out. The Opt-In/Opt-Out period for the DSU Health and Dental Plan and the DSU International Health Plan will open August 6 - September 30th. Tuition is due to Dalhousie on September 17th, if you opt-out after the 17th ensure your tuition is paid in full or you will be charged a late fee.
