“Trials teach us what we are; they dig up the soil, and let us see what we are made of.” – Charles Spurgeon “Prayer is the best armor against all trials.” “A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.” “Being on a spiritual path does not prevent you from facing the darkness, but it teaches you how to use the darkne...
Think of trials as training! God has to train His troops. Have you ever heard of any staff sergeant who got to where he was without going through tough situations? God has to prepare His children for the future.
I remember when I said, “why God, why this, and why that?” God told me to wait for His timing. God has delivered me in the past, but when you are going through bad times all you’re thinking about is right now. I’ve seen God use trials to build me up, answer different prayers, open doors, help others, and I’ve seen many miracles where I knew it was ...
James 1:12“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” Galatians 6:9“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Hebrews 10:35-36 “So do not throw away your confidence; it wil...
Sometimes we have to admit we just don’t know and instead of going crazy and trying to find out why, we must trust in the Lord that He knows best. Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts th...
Sometimes we suffer because of our own foolish decisions. Also, remember, we should never test God. In my life I’ve suffered because I followed the wrong voice. I did my will instead of God’s will. I can’t blame Godfor my mistakes, but what I can say is God brought me through it and made me stronger and smarter in the process. Hosea 4:6 “My people ...
2 Corinthians 12:7 “even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud.” Proverbs 18:12 “Before destruction a man’s heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.” 1 Peter 5:6-8 “Humble yourselve...
Hebrews 12:5-11 “And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” Endure hardship as di...
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, the...
God wants to spend time with you, but you lost your first love. You’re doing all these things for Jesus, but you’re not spending quality quiet time with the Lord. Revelation 2:2-5 “I know what you do, how you work hard and never give up. I know you do not put up with the false teachings of evil people. You have tested those who say they are apostle...
Atheism on Trial. Stephen Anderson sternly judges a cause célèbre. There was a time – some years ago – when to profess disbelief in a Supreme Being could be hazardous to one’s health. You could get hacked to pieces with a scimitar or boiled in oil. Neither the public nor the authorities had much tolerance.
He reviews the work of the supposed “Four Horsemen of the New Atheism” and points out they offer no substantive proof that God doesn’t exist; at best they merely tear down reasons for believing in God. In the following chapter Lanier then summarizes the atheist arguments against God and assesses each. “They offer no substantive proof ...
This introduction outlines the vision and scope of The Oxford Handbook of Atheism. While, historically speaking, the academic study of atheism has not always and everywhere received the attention it deserves, that does not mean that there is not already a significant body of scholarship on the subject. In particular, a great deal of new and ...
Jan 20, 2018 · This approach can, unsurprisingly, lead to conclusions that atheists have impoverished levels of meaning in life as compared with theists. If meaning in life is exogenous, then one would expect atheists and, to a lesser extent, the religiously unaffiliated, to report greater levels of fatalism and nihilism.
