Jun 4, 2020 · To get the Dark Mode button to appear on your Kindle Paperwhite 4 or Kindle Oasis 2 or 3 it needs to have the latest software installed. In fact the latest two software versions will add the button, version 5.12.4 and 5.12.5, but it may take some time for it to show up (it took 2 days to show up on my Oasis after it showed up on my Paperwhite).

The basic is lighter and easier to hold while in bed. Our bedroom is pitch black and kindle basic on dark mode with the frontlight at 2-3 is more than enough for me. My wife says she never has a clue i'm up reading. The warm light is very nice, but form factor for me laying down - basic wins out.
