Netflix has unveiled a new promotion that offers a selection of its original movies and TV show episodes to non-subscribers for free.
The streamer's new "Watch Free" page invites users to sample some of its content without a subscription. "Netflix is the premiere destination for all your entertainment needs," the website states. "But don't take our word for it–check out some of our favorite movies and TV shows, absolutely free."
The current selection of free titles on the website comprises of the Sandra Bullock thriller Bird Box, the Oscar-nominated biopic The Two Popes, and the Sandler-Aniston comedy Murder Mystery, which was the platform's most popular release last year.
Over the years, Netflix has garnered a reputation for spending enormous amounts of money to secure original streaming content for its platform in a bid to stay ahead of its competitors in the increasingly crowded streaming landscape. In fact, it was projected earlier this year that Netflix would be spending $17.3 billion on new content for 2020, up from $15.3 billion last year.
