Jan 21, 2024 · Before he addressed the sins of Judah and Israel, Amos’s first prophetic message was a warning to six Gentile nations that their wickedness demanded God’s judgment.
Three principles about God’s judgment need to be noted. First, the punishment is inevitable and irrevocable. Second, it is God who identifies the sins of a nation and announces the precise judgment. Third, God is longsuffering with nations giving them time for repentance.
Six of the nations around Israel and Judah were judged. The charges varied. They include crimes, atrocities and kidnapping against Israel, desecration of a king's body, rejecting the Law of God and social crimes. There are no exemptions for being a relative, or being ignorant of the Law.
