The logo has been widely viewed for so long, yet few know of its origins, making Ben Lomond Mountain both famous and an obscure landmark.
To the right of Alpamayo is Artesonraju (19,768’), the mountain depicted in the Paramount Pictures logo. Further right is mighty Chacraraju (20,039’), one of the most difficult peaks in the Andes to climb.
Legend has it that the mountain is based on a doodle made by W. W. Hodkinson during a meeting with Adolph Zukor. It is said to be based on the memories of his childhood in Utah. Some claim that Utah's Ben Lomond is the mountain Hodkinson doodled, and that Peru's Artesonraju is the mountain in the live-action logo.

The peak itself developed more recently, over the Quaternary Period, within the last 2.6 million years.
