Won’t work without a power source
- Most amplified antennas won’t work without a power source because the amplifier circuits are built right into the antenna so the signal just gets stopped if there’s no power to the amplifier.

Feb 12, 2021 · An antenna does not need to be plugged into a wall socket, except when it does. That doesn’t help a lot, does it? Let’s explain. An antenna itself is just a metal stick. It doesn’t need power to function. What an antenna is doing is actually receiving a broadcast from the air.
Yes, antenna is a powered antenna. But the good news is that power is supplied to the antenna system from the end of the cable that attaches to the tv, not at the antenna outdoors. The power is for a signal amplifier (small box) that is actually connects to your tv and the the coax from the antenna is also connected to the signal amplifier box.
May 15, 2024 · You want a power injector that supplies the same number of volts as the one you’re replacing. Too few volts and the amplifier won’t work. Too many and the amplifier will run hot or burn out. You can usually choose a power injector with a volt rating within 2-3 volts of the one you’re replacing.
There is only one connection at the antenna - the coaxial cable. But, the antenna needs (DC) power to operate properly. This power is supplied from a normal household power outlet by plugging the wall-wart into the outlet and the power-injector module.
Oct 29, 2023 · Power source: Amplified antennas require a power source to operate the built-in amplifier. They are typically powered through a USB connection or an AC adapter. Make sure to consider the availability of power outlets near your TV when choosing an amplified antenna.
Feb 4, 2013 · As demonstrated by a crystal set, no, you do not need a local power source to receive AM modulated signals (or measure the power of those) which are strong enough. However, amplification, active filtering, and many types of demodulators (for example, FM (with the exception of slope detection)) require local power.

Jul 6, 2023 · If you connect the antenna direct to your sdrplay it can power the antenna. I found it worked marginally better using the supplied bias-T box and a clean higher amperage supply (tested versus rspduo, airpsy R2, rtl-sdr.com dongle and nooelec dongles)
