"Space around the bed" means, there must be a solid block with two transparent blocks somewhere around the bed, so a player can stand there. tl;dr: Leave the bed where it is and have space around it, otherwise it's not a valid spawn point.

Sep 22, 2023 · Just remember that moving the bed won’t move the respawn point; instead, it will make your respawn point unusable and send you back to the world spawn point. To move your respawn point, you need to move the bed (or craft a new one) and then use it to reset your spawn point.
For trading, they just need access to their workstation, don’t need beds. You can also leave the villagers in a mine cart and have the workstation directly adjacent, makes it easier to keep them from wandering.
Apr 26, 2019 · Not sure which versions this all applies to, but I’m on Xbox One v1.14.30 with a build date of 2/09/2020 playing on survival, normal difficulty. To be a proper village (with gathering points, and iron golem spawns) there needs to be at least 10 villagers and 21 beds. And then there’s the village leader.
May 1, 2020 · No, villagers are only able to correctly pathfind to beds if they can reach the pillow end of the bed from the same level as it is. I.e. the villager needs to stand on a block besided the pillow end.
