With the healthcare and public health reform afoot, inequalities highlighted due to the pandemic are thus high on the policy agenda, and a mobilised research community, it is time to rethink our approach to inequalities within and beyond the healthcare system.
Some successful public health interventions may increase inequalities by bringing about greater improvements in health or health behaviours in less disadvantaged groups.

May 28, 2018 · Public health actions that focus on individual-level behavioural determinants may inadvertently increase health inequalities in the absence of accompanying efforts that target "upstream" socioeconomic, political, cultural, and environmental factors. Deploy a combination of targeted interventions and universal policies/interventions.
This chapter presents a theoretical model for this, showing how in the presence of social inequalities, even interventions designed to improve health can widen health disparities between groups.
