Feb 1, 2010 · Just my theory, but the Liquid Decal Film adds a barrier and the Micro Set helps the decal adhere to the painted surface. After letting the decals cure for at least 24 hours, you are ready to apply the TS-13 Clear. Your first three or four coats should be light mist coats only, waiting 20-30 minutes between coats.

I would clear coat even contigency stickers as it would not be that noticeable if you apply a thin layer. And many modern race cars have wraps.
But you can't put decals over a flat finish or they cloud. So the tequnique is to apply them over gloss, either gloss base coat, Pledge, or gloss coat, then spray over everything with a matt or flat top coat. With cars, most color coat enamels are gloss, a lot of acrylics are not. So the answer depends on what paint you are using.
Decals need a very smooth surface to adhere without getting any bubbles or silvering on them. So if your surface is really really smooth, you could decal then clear coat - but the common procedure is to add a layer of clear gloss before decals. then some clear or matte to seal in the deals once you are done. 4. The paint came out well, the decals transferred well, but when I went to use some automotive clear coat, the decals wrinkled. What do you guys use to clear coat over decals?

How about you just don't bother putting clear over your decals? Problem solved. It's definitely an option for future models. You're right; the decals on 1:1 race cars aren't clear coated. I have to admit, though, that I like the uniform, finished look of a model that's been completely cleared, even though that's not 100% accurate.
