But some kids might only need the related service. Different states and school districts deal with this in different ways. The federal law says states can decide to allow related services to be the only form of special education a child gets.
Just as special and regular education must be provided to an eligible student with a disability at no cost to the parent or guardian, so, too, must related services when the IEP team has determined that such services are required in order for the child to benefit from his or her education.
Special education programs and services are tailored to meet students’ individual needs. These programs support students with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism and more. By law, all school boards must provide special education programs and/or services for students with special education needs.

The sub-committee identified eight broad areas of barriers that impact the experiences of students with disabilities transitioning between K-12; and from K-12 to postsecondary education. These are: lack of consistency of planning in transitions. lack of understanding between the K-12 and postsecondary education systems.
Students with disabilities must have the option for special education services in school, and related services are part of those. Related services are different for every student. An IEP offers many options for related services based on the student’s specific needs.
This grant is available to students with disabilities for each year of study. You can apply at the same time as you apply for student aid with your province or territory.
