  1. Sep 29, 2023 · Its completely clear, bilinear filter is off and nothing else is applied. - I'd just like to share a thought, in case there will be a hardware update at some point. The Atari 2600+ with its cartridges has been compared to a turntable with its vinyl records, and that's romantically nostalgic.

  2. Feb 18, 2024 · What does Bilinear Filter do? Fixes the unevenly scaled horizontal lines so you don’t get the undulating/judder effect on vertically scrolling games like River Raid, Xevious7800, commando7800, etc

  3. Feb 18, 2024 · Yes indeed, another reason why the bilinear filter is useful. Speaking of which, I was wondering how the 7800's vertical resolution is handled.

  4. Oct 18, 2024 · Here's a tip for the Atari 2600 lovers who are using the latest versions of retroarch. I don't know about you, but I love playing with Double Strike resolution, and I think the bilinear filter is not a good thing for these resolutions (but bilinear is good for LED screens).

Shaders are small programs that a dedicated graphics chip (GPU) runs to alter the image. Unfortunately, the Raspberry Pi series feature fairly weak GPUs that struggle to run complex or multiple shaders. Fortunately, community members have built CRT shaders around these limitations:

Note: These shaders can only be used in Libretro emulators. Most default emulators in RetroPie are Libretro emulators, but you can confirm by looking for the lr- prefix in the emulator name via the Runcommand. You can select either preset via the Configuration Editor. Choose Configure basic libretro emulator options, then choose a specific emulator...

Some arcade games were run on a vertical CRT; a regular TV flipped over on its side. Whilst libretro shaders automatically rotate for this, the shadow mask effect does not, causing an unsightly 'rainbow' effect. Rather than add logic to the shader (making it slower), a special version for vertical games is available: 1. crt-pi-vertical.glslp 2. crt...

Retroarch includes the facility to apply a basic bilinear smoothing filter across the screen. This filter reduces pixelation at essentially no performance cost, but gives a very soft image that may not be to everyone's taste. Here is example of it off and on: This setting can be enabled in the Configuration Editor. Look for 'Video Smoothing'. It wo...

  5. Nov 22, 2023 · And unlike most other "modern retro" hardware rereleases, the Atari 2600+ doesn't offer anything in the way of image filters to try to re-add the "blur" to those harsh, blown-up...

  7. Dec 13, 2023 · It costs $130, and at first glance, it appears similar to other mini consoles produced by Nintendo, Sony and SEGA. But there’s a few differences with the Atari 2600+ which make it stand apart from the competition and warrant that slightly higher price point.
