Presumably, the director of that first James Bond film, Terence Young, decided that while he wanted the identity of his villain to be kept secret, he also wanted his audience to have something to look at, to make the scene more captivating, and so he added the cat.

Blofeld was actually played by Anthony Dawson (who was Professor Dent in Dr No) and his voice was dubbed by Eric Pohlman. Interestingly, it can be seen that Blofeld has hair, in contrast to the bald persona that would become famous. Blofeld's trademark white cat (which is never named) is established here.

Admittedly, this famous Persian cat does look white but it is not a typical white. It is a silvery translucent, special kind of white. This is the chinchilla coat.

Jul 7, 2008 · It was never given a name (or a definite gender) in the films, but one of the cats who played it was a famous cat whose name escapes me. This is somewhat of a wrong place to 5b4discuss it as this cat was never in Ian Fleming books, only in the movies.
