Sep 8, 2015 · Thanks to a new launcher, Minecraft no longer requires you to install Java, so you can finally remove it. The short version is that Minecraft is now bundling a standalone version of Java into their installation and it doesn't have the security problems and annoyances that regular Java does.

Java 21 is required, though the game comes with its own version of Java, so no manual installation is required. The below requirements are for the unmodified/"vanilla" versions of the game. Mods, resource packs and custom maps can have significantly higher requirements.
