The school motto is Doce me Bonitatem et Disciplinam et Scientiam (Psalm 118), Latin for ‘Teach me Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge’. It was originally brought to the Congregation of St. Basil in the late 19th century by one of the school’s founders.

This was a highly conservative environment. Despite the efforts of the teachers, there was a power structure in place that favoured the athletic.
