Aug 2, 2023 · According to Simons et al. (2016), videogames implemented in cognitive training are typically divided into three broad categories: 1) “Action” games, which emphasize the rapid identification, prioritization, and handling of threats; 2) “Strategy” games, which emphasize resource monitoring and efficiently conducting multiple simultaneous tasks; a...
Video gaming affects the brain structure and function depending on how the game is played. The game genres examined were 3D adventure, first-person shooting (FPS), puzzle, rhythm dance, and strategy. The total training durations were 16–90 h. Results of this systematic review demonstrated that video gaming can be beneficial to the brain.

To assess the impact on study quality on cognitive outcomes, we next fitted a mixed meta-regression model including the coded participant and study quality factors as fixed effect terms (with study modeled as a random effect as described above). Fixed factors included in this model included the gender ratio and average age of investigation particip...

Mar 7, 2023 · Meta-analyses of action video game interventions show that training with an action video game results in numerically smaller (in comparison to cross-sectional differences), but still significant improvements in cognitive skills as indicated by a Hedges’ g = 0.33 in the meta-analysis by Bediou et al. (2018) and a Cohen’s d = 0.58 in the meta ...
The third meta-analysis (k = 359) investigated the effects of video game training on participants' cognitive ability. Small or null overall effect sizes were found in all three models. These outcomes show that overall cognitive ability and video game skill are only weakly related.
