The mean number of treatment sessions was 8.5 (SD 3.72), with the number of sessions ranging from 3 to 40. To determine the relationship of the number of treatment sessions on the overall mean effect of anger at post-test, a meta-regression was completed. For the slope, the z-value was 2.189 (p < .05).
The primary goal of the current study is to examine whether session frequency (i.e., mean number of days between sessions) and consistency (standard deviation of number of days between session) predicts PTSD treatment outcome at both post-treatment assessment and at the follow-up assessments (3-months, 9-months, 5-years).
Apr 1, 2024 · In studies with arousal-increasing activities, the number of sessions ranged from 1 to 64 (M = 16.81, SD = 19.09; we omitted 31 studies that did not report the number of sessions). The number of sessions was negatively associated with anger and aggression ( b = −0.01, [−0.02, −0.0001], k = 64).
Thus, if therapists are able to “pass the test” by dealing effectively with clients' disagreement or anger, clients will feel secure enough to disclose their distressing experiences.
