Fontainebleau is a sub-prefecture of the Seine-et-Marne department, and it is the seat of the arrondissement of Fontainebleau. The commune has the largest land area in the Île-de-France region; it is the only one to cover a larger area than Paris itself. The commune is closest to Seine-et-Marne Prefecture, Melun.
The chateau. The chateau is open every day except Tuesday, January 1 st, May 1 st and December 25 th. From October to March: 9.30 am to 5 pm (last access at 4.15 pm). From April to September: 9.30 am to 6 pm (last access at 5.15 pm). The park and gardens are open, under the usual conditions, free of charge.
May 18, 2023 · It’s a 35-minute, €5 train ride from Paris Gare de Lyon to Fontainebleau-Avon. A 2.9km stroll through the château’s park along the canal (or through town) and you’ll reach the palace. Or you can take bus 1, which leaves every 15 minutes from the train station. Get off at the Bibliothèque stop for the château.
