Just heard from the road administration - they say it is very unlikely that any of the roads between Höfn and Mývatn will open today, but they are looking into opening all roads tomorrow. Personally I feel more optimistic about the Höfn - Egilsstaðir stretch (that is a pretty safe bet IMO) but I am not so sure about the Northeast.

Apr 16, 2020 · I drove through Vik (just stopped for lunch and shopping, and to explore a couple beaches), and stayed a couple nights in Höfn, due to its proximity to the southeast and east coast. It worked for me. If you prefer to spend more time hanging around the stark beauty of the Vik beaches, you could maybe skip Höfn altogether.
Höfn is the lobster capital of Iceland. The residents throw the Lobster Festival in June to celebrate lobster fishing, which makes up a large part of their livelihood. It is such a hard life as a lobster fisherman in that section of the globe they really celebrate! You will taste the best lobster you have ever eaten in Höfn.

Mar 19, 2023 · I’ll be in Iceland the first two weeks of April, with my second week being on the South Coast. I’m doing an ice cave tour when I stop in Skaftafell on the 10th. On the 11th I’ll be in Höfn and don’t have anything planned. It seems all the tours are ice cave related. What are some other things to do snd see while I’m in Höfn? Thanks!
Aug 15, 2018 · Early september. We are waking up in Vik and driving to Höfn On one of our days. 3.5 hours from air bnb to hotel. Our longest drive of our trip. We do not have any excursions planned for the whole ring road extravaganza but are considering a 3 hour glacier hike at Vatnajökull.
Jun 4, 2024 · Day 3 - (Vik to Höfn) Depart from Vik and drive to next hotel in Höfn. We’d like to stop at some sights on the way - such as Fjaðrárgljúfur and Diamond Beach. Visit Verstrahorn. Spend time in Höfn. Day 4 - (Höfn to Bakkagerði) Depart Höfn and drive to Stuðlagil for hiking and sightseeing.
Jun 20, 2021 · I’m in Iceland and I really want to get a wool sweater before I leave. I’m going to be spending time in Reykjavik, Vik, and Höfn. I went to a store in Reykjavik yesterday where the sweaters were $160 (I think it was the main sweater manufacturer in Iceland). Does anyone have a recommendation for where to get them cheaper?
