Sep 10, 2023 · In order to perceive Jesus’s kindness in his severe, discomforting, disturbing invitations, we need to keep in mind what he is doing through his words and works: First, Jesus is revealing what God is like in his full triune nature. Second, Jesus is revealing what we are like in our full fallen nature.
- Healing the Leper. When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
- Dining With a Sinner. Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; was a chief tax collector and was wealthy.
- Preaching to the Gentiles. Now he had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
- Showing Compassion to the Sick. As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her.
Let us remember Jesus’ unexpected kindness in this situation and strive to emulate his example in our own lives. We can choose to forgive and show compassion, even in the face of injustice and societal norms that urge us to condemn. Through forgiveness, we can create a world filled with love, understanding, and second chances.
May 1, 2024 · His kindness came to us. Jesus, the incarnate deity, came to earth to show us the greatest act of kindness and love on the cross at Calvary. Death was defeated and not only that, by the Holy Spirit we too can have access to the fruit of kindness. We can live out and be kind to others in a way that is out of this world.
