Jun 28, 2018 · These instructions are written for Atari-brand 2600 cartridges, but of course they work pretty well with other brands, too, as well as 5200/7800 cartridges: Strip off as much of the front/end cartridge labels as you can. Some can be peeled right off; others may not come off as cleanly.
I only use archival glue to reapply labels (I use Jade 403), and I use alcohol to clean the contacts. Arguably you should use a reversible archival glue instead of Jade 403, but to me it's not worth the trouble. I store my cartridges in polypropylene boxes with lids, away from sunlight.

Sep 26, 2009 · This is a good time to set the cart aside and work with a damaged box if you're very confident of your ability. In most cases if the label is intact and peeling off, it's best just to remove it altogether and re glue it.
Soak the top half in warm soapy water and I use generic plastic safe cleaner and a toothbrush to clean any excess gunk and get in-between the cracks. The bottom I don't soak because of the lable but just use the cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Than use 91 or higher isopropyl alcohol and either an antistatic brush....

Two things to check on a dead 2600: the power supply (as mentioned previously) and its power jack, and the power switch. You are right to use isopropyl alcohol, but make sure its 90%+ because the lower concentrations have too much water in them and can cause damage.
