Select multilevel list type (third list-type button in "paragraph" frame) and from scrolldown menu choose the one list in "Lists in current documents" (see pic.). This will sync styles of numbering of new list and existing one. Right-click on the number beside heading (still incorrect) and choose "Continue Numbering".

3.Select Symbol and find a box character. If you don't initially see one, change Font to Wingdings or Segoe UI Symbol.

Make your list
1.Create your list. 2.Place you cursor at the start of the first line. 3.Go to the Developer tab, and then click Check Box. 4.If you want a space after the check box, press Tab or Spacebar. Use a Tab character if you want to format the list item with hanging indentation, like Word applies to bulleted lists. 5.Select and copy (⌘ + C) the check box and any tabs or spaces. 6.Place the cursor at the start of the each list item, and paste (⌘ + V ) the copied check box and characters. 7.Paste the checkbox at the start of each line in your list.

Jun 21, 2018 · On the "Home" tab of the Ribbon, click the "Multilevel Lists" button, and then click one of the built-in lists types shown on the dropdown menu. Your list will now be formatted in the style you chose. And yes, right now, it's a single-level list. The truth is that technically, single- and multi-level lists are not much different in Word.
