If the number of "retries" indicates that there is no D1 disk connected, the ATARI 850 sends an answer to the last GetStatus message. This way ATARI 850 starts D1 drive emulation and provides the answers to the following GetSector requests.
Jul 31, 2015 · 850 was overkill for what a lot of people needed and the price reflected that. Pointless - not really. The industry at all levels was full of such black boxes used to interface incompatible host/peripherals back then and even now to an extent.
Jul 11, 2017 · I don't think you can connect a Atari SIO to a PC serial port. You have to have a SIO2PC/APE adapter. Then you could use your serial to USB. Oh, theres also the rspect/aspect adapter from Poland/Germany. I'm sure this is in the 'beginner'' post.
