- Progress the main quest before you properly explore. While it may be tempting to pick a point on the horizon and run off into the Highlands as soon as you arrive at Hogwarts, it's better to bite off a chunk of the main quest first.
- Do your assignments for extra spells. Many challenges in Hogwarts Legacy are impossible to overcome if you don't have the right magic. There is a certain Merlin Trial, for instance, that can't be completed without Flipendo, and there are Treasure Vaults that are totally inaccessible unless you have Glacius or Incendio.
- Eye chests break the economy. There's a way to never worry about getting gold in Hogwarts Legacy, and that is by opening eye chests. These cyclopean treasure hoards are hidden around the map, but once you learn the Disillusionment spell, you can sneak up on them and plunder each for 500 gold.
- Grow your own. Another way to save gold long-term is to grow plants rather than buying them outright. After you complete your first Herbology lesson, you can buy seeds from Dogweed and Deathcap in Hogsmeade, and bring them back to grow plants in the Herbology classroom.

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG set in the world that was brought to life by the iconic Harry Potter books. Set in the 1800s - a time well before the books' stories with Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley - you'll play as a gifted student joining Hogwarts as a 5th-year. Believed to hold the key to an ancient secret, you'll embark on a dangerous journey to uncover the hidden truth of the wizarding world.

While the Sorting Hat will appear in Hogwarts Legacy, you will decide the house you'll be sent to. So, all you have to do is select your preferred house once the choice presents itself.
If you want to immerse yourself, answering his question with the right house trait will prompt him to suggest the one you may be looking for, but you can always choose differently once the Sorting Hat suggests a house. Here are the answers you'll need to be sorted into a particular house:
•Bravery (Gryffindor)
•Curiosity (Ravenclaw)
•Loyalty (Hufflepuff)
•Ambition (Slytherin)
If there is one thing that has likely drawn you to Hogwarts Legacy, it is spellcasting, and rightfully so, as there are over 29 unique spells and charms that you can unlock and cast to your heart's desire. These spells range from fan-favorites like Avada Kedavra, Levioso, Incendio, and much more.
As you unlock more spells through the main storyline and side quests, you'll notice that each spell is color-coded to a particular type:
•Control - Yellow
•Force - Purple
•Damage - Red
•Utility - Light Blue
As you progress through the main story and complete the quest, The Map Chamber, you'll unlock Talents, which are best described as spell enhancements. To unlock Talents, you will need Talent Points - which are earnt every time you level up your character beyond level five.
Once you've accumulated some points, you'll be able to select from five different categories of Talents: Spells, Dark Arts, Core, Stealth, and Room of Requirement.
•The Spells category focuses heavily on damage, with spells such as Incendio, Levioso, and Confringo all receiving large increases in their damage capacity.
•The Dark Arts category introduces Dark Magic to normal spells such as Stupefy, Flipendo, and Expelliarmus.
•The Core category strengthens your core abilities, such as basic cast cooldowns, stronger protection with Protego, new spell sets, and enhanced dodging abilities.
•The Stealth category is as described - enemies will have a reduced chance of spotting you.
Once you unlock your Field Guide, you'll be able to start completing Challenges, with each Challenge tier offering a unique reward that can include cosmetic gear transmogs, critical upgrades, new recipes, additional inventory slots, and much more.
There are five main categories of challenges available: Combat, Quests, Exploration, Field Guide Pages, and Room of Requirement.
Side Quests play a crucial role in your Hogwarts Legacy experience as taking part in classes and completing Professor Assignments is one of the main ways to unlock new spells and charms that are required for completing Merlin Trials and other secret puzzles.
In addition, Side Activities are just as important, as activities such as Broom Racing Events and Crossed Wands Dueling Club are vital for learning optimal spell combinations and unlocking broom upgrades.
Exploring Hogwarts Legacy will reveal chests and containers of all types, but some are more important than others. Collection Chests contain random wand handle cosmetics or conjuration recipes for your Room of Requirement, and can be found all over Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade, and the Highlands open world. You'll be able to find and unlock each collection chest with our guides to every region.
Unlike regular chests that contain random gear, and Eyeball Chests that contain money, Collection Chests are the only type of chest that are tracked both on the minimap, and on your map list of collectibles. The contents of the chest depend on its shape: the triangle-studded boxes will always contain a random Conjuration Recipe, while the cylindrical chests will always contain a random wand handle you can equip.
Collection Chests often (though not always) follow a pattern: Many of them in Hogwarts are locked behind Arithmancy Doors, or from unlocking Hogwarts Secrets.
Meanwhile, there are some in Hogsmeade behind locked doors requiring the unlocking spell, and others found in the Highlands open world are found in enemy camps.
Your time in Hogwarts Legacy will be marked by the accumulation of knowledge in your Hogwarts Field Guide. Much of this is done by finding Field Guide Pages that can be found all over Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the Highlands open world.
Here are all the different types of Field Guide pages that you’ll encounter in Hogwarts Legacy, including the spell requirements that you’ll need to solve the puzzles.
Besides the quests that you can undertake, the Field Guide and Challenges are the only way that you can earn experience in Hogwarts Legacy. You'll need to acquire more to increase your level, which can let you get better gear, gain more health, and unlock more quests and spells.

As you begin to explore to explore outside Hogwarts Castle, you'll find that there are many Shops and Vendors scattered about Hogsmeade and The Highlands. While you'll mostly be visitng these stores to offload your excessive gear collection, these stores also hold many valuable items and services that you'll want to utilize throughout your journey through the wizarding world.
Here are just some of the stores that you'll want to take full advantage of in the wizarding town of Hogsmeade:
•Ollivanders
•When first visiting Hogsmeade, Ollivanders will be on the must-visit list as you'll want to pick out your wand.
•Tomes and Scrolls
•You'll be paying quite a visits to Tomes and Scrolls in the latter half of the game, as the store will stock Conjuration Recipes for items that belong in your Room of Requirement.
Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. For the first time, experience Hogwarts in the 1800s. Your character is a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart.
- Focus on the main quest initially. In a massive open-world game like Hogwarts Legacy, it’s always tempting to venture off the beaten path as soon as possible, but in this case, it's beneficial to resist the urge.
- Complete class assignments quick. As mentioned above, initially in Hogwarts Legacy you’ll be lacking many of the spells needed to properly explore the game’s open world, and this means that unlocking new magical incantations should be your top priority.
- Collect field guide pages to level up. If you need to level up fast, perhaps because you’ve collected some gear that you’re too low-level to wear, or because you want to unlock some additional spell slots via the game’s skill tree, then collecting field guide pages is the quickest way to earn lots of XP in a matter of minutes.
- Stupefy is your best friend in battles. Stupefy is one of the most powerful tools in your spell book, and you conveniently have it unlocked from the very start.
