Dec 10, 2019 · Click on the Upload icon to begin the process of uploading an SVG file. A new screen will appear which displays your most recently uploaded images. Click on the “Upload Image” button in the top left-center of the screen to upload a new file.
The video below shows how to upload SVG files into Cricut Design Space. I’ve used the free SVGS from Craft with Sarah to show how to download the designs, unzip the folders and get the SVG files into Design Space, but the same steps will work for SVGs from any source.

Step 1: Download the File
First, find the SVG file you want to use for your project.I’m using this free SVG file from Creative Fabrica.Click on the green button to download the file. You will need to be logged in to your account first, so it might pop up asking for that. Speaking of free designs, check out this link to see all of the amazing and completely free designs! Here are even more options for your downloading joy. If your computer is set up anything like mine, it went to your downloads folder.
Step 2: Open up Cricut Design Space
This is the screen that pops up when you first open it, since we are working on a new project you will want to click on that plus sign. Here is what the next screen will look like, it’s a blank background. If you were going to design your own file you would start by drawing your shapes or typing your text out.
Step 3: Start the Upload Process for the SVG File
We are going to upload our new SVG file, so click on the upload button in the bottom left corner of the screen. Cricut design space will now ask you what type of file you want to upload, the file for my example is an image so click on that.
Step 1: Download the File
This will start out the same way we did the last cut-only file. First, let’s find the design we want to use. I’m using this floral alphabet graphic. Go ahead and download the file by clicking the green button.
Step 2: Open the File in Cricut Design Space
I’m going to show you a new way to open the files since this download has so many options and needed the unzipped files. You can have your file finder open and you simply will drag the file you want to use over into the Cricut Design Space screen.
Step 3: Choose the Image Type
This is where things are different than opening a cut-only file. You’ll need to let the software know what type of file this image is. Simple, Moderate, or Complex. If you aren’t sure which file type to choose, you can test it out by clicking on each option and the image preview on the left will show how the file will look. You can see the simple option doesn’t show the floral details correctly for this design. Now let’s see how the moderate option looks. It doesn’t look much better huh? Ok,...
For this example, I’m going to be using an IOS-based phone. I don’t have an android phone to test on but I’m sure they are similar steps on both devices.
