There is no practical limit to the number of floors (sometimes called levels) in the Skull Cavern. Similar to the Mines, the Player advances through floors in the Skull Cavern by finding a ladder on each floor, either by mining rocks or defeating enemies. The Skull Cavern has the same possible floor layouts as the ones in the Mines.
- Fall Into Holes. Holes can appear when you break rocks. Unlike ladders, holes can drop you down multiple floors. This is a great way to descend quickly, especially if you fall down a hole that drops you ten floors.
- Skip Large Floors. There are a few different "shapes" that the Skull Cavern floors can take. Most of them are fairly easy to navigate the entirety of in a short amount of time.
- Focus On Descending. Rather than wasting time fighting enemies, ignore them as much as possible. If they're attacking you, defend yourself, but avoid them as much as you can.
- Go Until You Pass Out. Passing out never sounds like a good or helpful thing to do, but when it comes to the Skull Cavern, it can make a big difference in how much loot you're able to bring home.
