The fox's mouth acts as the same way as player's hands. If you give a fox a diamond sword and then introduce it to chickens, it'll use the diamond sword to kill them. That's why when the fox is holding a Totem of Undying, it'll use it just like players. Give them a tool with Fire Aspect and you got yourself a cooked meat maker.

The baby fox trusts the player that bred it and does not flee from that player as it grows up; however, because baby foxes also follow nearby adult foxes, an adult running away from the player may cause the baby to do the same.
