- Riverine DO concentrations depend on interacting physical, chemical and biological processes, often regulated by thermal, light and flow conditions that define rivers’ climate. These processes include air–water gas exchange, photosynthesis (primary production) that produces DO, and aquatic respiration that consumes DO.

Mar 9, 2023 · The concentration of dissolved oxygen (DO), an important measure of water quality and river metabolism, varies tremendously in time and space.
Mar 7, 2024 · In the short term, climate change alters subsurface conditions on land and in rivers, including soil temperature (T), soil moisture (Sw) and oxygen (O 2) levels, all of which are key drivers of...
Jan 1, 2024 · The variability of oxygen dynamics in inland waters results from the combination of exchanges with the atmosphere; advection, dispersion, and biota-mediated transport; photosynthesis and photorespiration; aerobic respiration; oxidation of reduced inorganic compounds; photochemical oxidation of organic matter; and chemical weathering.
Apr 6, 2023 · With 40 years of data from 580 U.S. rivers, Penn State researchers used a deep learning model to find out if sunlight, temperature or stream flow is the main driver of dissolved oxygen concentrations.
Jun 2, 2022 · Overall, this study demonstrated how river oxygen levels would be influenced by rising RWT due to climate change using the kNN-LSTM model for the Indian riverine system.
Jun 2, 2022 · The rising RWTs will reduce river assimilative capacity by affecting its oxygen metabolism, in addition to lowering saturation, and necessitates redefining/alterations of the river water quality standards under climate change.
Apr 11, 2023 · The amount of dissolved oxygen in a river is a matter of life or death for the plants and animals living within it, but this oxygen concentration varies drastically from one river to...
