Due to the approval of the Equal Rights Amendment for Women in 1979, there was a surge in interest of women’s rights and the subsequent atmosphere led to a criticism of the stereotypical themes of knights in shining armour and the portrayal of women as wide-eyed and helpless in fairy tales.
