The 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began on November 6, 2023. The regular season ended on March 17, 2024, with the 2024 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament beginning with the First Four on March 19 and ending with the championship game at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on April 8.
- Kansas (1st in Big 12) The Jayhawks reeled in the biggest prize of the transfer portal in Hunter Dickinson and return three starters from last season’s Big 12 champs.
- Duke (1st in ACC) Jon Scheyer gets rare roster continuity at Duke, headlined by the return of sophomores Tyrese Proctor and Kyle Filipowski. Filipowski profiles as among the nation’s most productive players, while Proctor could be in for a huge breakout after a solid freshman campaign.
- Purdue (1st in Big Ten) National Player of the Year Zach Edey is back for his senior season with revenge on his mind after Purdue’s shocking NCAA tournament exit against Fairleigh Dickinson last season.
- Tennessee (1st in SEC) The Volunteers should be a menace on the defensive end because of their experience, athleticism and positional size. Scoring consistently is the primary question mark, though excitement is high about Northern Colorado transfer sharpshooter Dalton Knecht’s potential impact next to Zakai Zeigler and Santiago Véscovi.
- North Carolina Tar Heels. Expectations are lower for North Carolina after last year's epic flameout from No. 1 in the preseason polls to missing the NCAA Tournament entirely but the leadership of the team that went to the national title game in 2022 is still around.
- Alabama Crimson Tide. The Crimson Tide aren't nearly as deep as last year's 1-seed but Nate Oats' cupboard isn't exactly bare. Mark Sears lends a steady hand at the point while North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson provides experience to help lead a team that will be reliant on contributions from a loaded freshmen class to contend in the SEC.
- Baylor Bears. Scott Drew lost a lot of talent to graduation and the NBA but he has put together an interesting mix of five-star freshmen, impact transfers and JuCo additions to round out the roster.
- UCLA Bruins. Losing Jaime Jaquez and Tyger Campbell will lower the ceiling of UCLA but Mick Cronin's Bruins are getting slept on. Sophomore big man Adem Bona will serve as a leader for a team that has seven freshmen vying to contribute as the Bruins should get better as the calendar turns.
