Space Apps Community, I am very proud of NASA’s International Space Apps Challenge, the largest annual global hackathon in the world. This year, the event was held on October 2-3, 2021 and over 28,000 people from around the world registered to address challenges on Earth and in space using space-based data from NASA alongside our partner space agencies worldwide.
The first NASA Space Apps Challenge in 2012 was attended by approximately 2,000 people at 25 events in 17 countries. Since then, the program has grown rapidly to over 93,500 participants. Engagement with the NASA Space Apps Challenge reached new heights in 2020, during the pandemic, with the addition of the NASA Space Apps COVID-19 Challenge to the annual hackathon.
After kicking off our live Welcome to Space Apps premiere, thousands of people across the globe came together from October 2-3 for Space Apps 2021! We had over 28,000 registrants from 162 countries and territories, making this the largest virtual Space Apps event in our ten-year history.
