Conning tower: 100 mm (3.9 in) Karlsruhe was a light cruiser, the second member of the Königsberg class, and served from November 1929 to May 1938, and again from November 1939 to April 1940, seeing action in World War II. She was operated by two German navies, the Reichsmarine and the Kriegsmarine. She had two sister ships, Königsberg and Köln.
The Kreuzer C (Karlsruhe) joined the fleet in November 1929 while the Kreuzer D (Köln) was commissioned in January 1930. All three cruisers made several voyages in many countries of the world before World War II to "show the flag". During the war they did see action in the North and Baltic Sea.
The Karlsruhe was used for foreign services since 1914. At the outbreak of the war, the ship was stationed in the Caribbean Sea and was used as a merchant raider. Apr 9, 2022 · Construction. SMS Karlsruhe was ordered in 1911 as “Ersatz Seeadler” (as a replacement for the 1890 2nd class cruiser). She was laid down in 1911 at Germaniawerft shipyard in Kiel, hull number 181. Launched on 11 November 1912, she was commissioned on 15 January 1914.

German light cruiser, the Karlsruhe, has been identified on the seabed 13 nautical miles off Norway 80 years after she was sunk during the invasion. Lying in deep water she was detected just 15 metres from a Norwegian power grid sub-sea cable that connects Denmark and Norway.

Nov 4, 2014 · The two German ships headed off; Suffolk pursued Karlsruhe, but was unable to catch the faster German ship. Kronprinz Wilhelm had received two 88mm guns, but only a third of the intended ammunition. The high speed chase used up a lot of Karlsruhe’s coal, so her captain, Fregattenkapitän Erich Köhler, decided to head for Newport News in order to coal.
