Honestly, same, I had no idea anyone was getting paid for mods outside Microsoft's paid mods on xbox and that sort of thing. I thought this was a joke topic and hitting play would just show a short animation of the $0.00 moving across the "date" line, maybe with a surprise dip into the negatives citing something like a curse membership fee or data limit charge, haha.

I published my first mod sometime mid-late June and have made roughly $85 so far. It's not much at all. If I don't do anything at all in regards to mod updates (which increase downloads a lot usually), I will continue to get a bit over $25 per month, every month. I have about 140,000 downloads to my mods.
They make most of their money off patreon and Kofi and such. Or, in the case of smaller/less popular modders, they just plain don't make money. Nexus does pay out a very small amount, but unless you're pulling in unreal numbers of downloads, it's not going to amount to much.

Aug 23, 2024 · From nearly 300k mod downloads on curseforge last month I made around $70, certainly not enough to live on but it's nice to get. Other methods like youtube can get significantly more money but it depends how popular you get there. The actual revenue per download seems to vary wildly between users and varies per month too.
