- You will save money. Used books are cheaper. An obvious reason, of course. New books can set you back a pretty penny, especially if you’re buying stacks at a time!
- It’s better for the environment. New paper books carry quite a large footprint, with millions of trees destroyed and millions of tonnes of CO2 produced each year.
- Be a part of the shared book history. When you buy a used book, you never know what you are going to get. Inscriptions in margins or dedications in the front page.
- That old book smell. New books smell the same. It’s the fresh off the press smell. Used books, however, have spent years, decades and occasionally centuries collecting their own unique scent.
Second hand books are the best. I rarely ever buy new books and would have to say 90 percent of my books are used, unless they are on sale and I want the hard back. But I have been able to pick up some awesome lots on eBay for way cheaper than what it would cost to buy new.
Oct 4, 2019 · There’s another type of customer encounter that happens at least once a shift at the used bookstore where I work, sometimes a dozen times. A customer walks in, beelines to where I’m helming the front desk, and asks a variation of the same question: “Do you have this specific book?”.
I prefer buying used books. It feels good think of how I got 3-4 books for the price I could have paid for one new one. Had to get a new bookcase when I discovered thriftbooks and secondsale.
