Minecraft version 1.8.9 is the most optimized client for our network and for the best player experience we recommend you use 1.8.9. Other versions of Minecraft, such as 1.11 and higher, will work on the Hypixel server but due to system changes, it impacts our servers differently.
Old Minecraft (in my opinion) is far greater than the current version. I've never played Alpha, aside from the attempt of five minutes, but the lag forced me to close the program. I loved the simplicity of the game, no stupid try hard redstoners, mini games, abundance of children etc.
Note that this is irreversible, so you might want to back up the world save, the whole saves folder, or even the whole .minecraft folder before you go messing around with its contents. I don't know the exact steps to do this on another operating system but I imagine they'll have a similar feature, somewhere.
