Nov 9, 2024 · Recently i found a box of old Atari ST games - all on 3,5" floppy disks. I got myself an USB-3,5" floppy disk drive, and plugged it into my Win11 PC. The PC lists the drive as A: and can access it.
Aug 10, 2007 · Atari ST and PC use very similar floppy formats, but not same, and it causes confusion and problems. General advice is this: format floppy on PC to 720KB, and it will be perfectly usable on Atari ST, any TOS version. Win XP offers not such format in Explorer, but it can be done in command prompt.
May 2, 2012 · ST images are just plain raw dumps. You can use them with rawrite on DOS/windows or dd on Mac/UNIX. Don't forget to use the right disks and drive for your Atari drive. e.g. my SF314s need DSDD floppies, which I can't write with modern (heh) high density drives.

Windoze does format and read 720 Kby with USB floppies, the problem is for extended formats (for example 800 Kby) that need an internal floppy disk drive to use them. Type CMD in the Windows start box and then type the command FORMAT A: /T:80 /N:9 /u.
